"Thanks for the messages on my retirement. It's been almost three weeks and so far i'm loving it, but it still feels like i'm only on av, which i am in a way but i'm not coming back...ever.
It's been a long 35 years, 8 months, 9 days, 4 hours and 48 minutes, not that i was keeping track, but like every other old guy told me it does go by fast, it really does, except the last two weeks.
I'm really hoping time slows down now, for us anyways. For all of you still working, all i can say is hang in there and hope things get better soon. It's all of you that made the job easier to come to for me. Thanks for helping me get from here to there and back and to this point in my life, i couldn't have done it without you. There were some rough times but we also had a lot of laughs as we all made the best of what we had to deal with. We've had a lot of long days and nights, but "we" got us to the other end. This also goes for everyone i worked with in Revelstoke, but most of you have moved to Kamloops anyways.
When i was asked who i wanted to work with on my last trip i didn't have to even think about it, i enjoyed working with everyone so i chose to work with whoever i was lined up with, thanks Thomas (and Hunter). Sheilah rode with us from Basque into Kamloops which she thought was pretty cool. Even with all the excitement my last trip was a rough one, but i knew it would be. If anyone says they got off the train for the last time and didn't feel anything they are full of shit. That's a lot of years of doing the same thing and to have it end is tough. Keep them dark safety glasses handy! Roman told me it would be tough and he was so right. It was nice to see some of the guys and ladies come out and be at the station when i came in, was really nice to see the Revelstoke guys too. I'll miss the people and i might even miss running an engine, i'll for sure miss the contact with everyone so if you're in the neighborhood please stop in and give me all the gossip i'm missing out on. 550 Tod mountain road Heffley Creek.
To be able to make plans without having to check the lineup is something Sheilah and i have been waiting for and now we'll make the most of it. We plan on spending a lot of time with our kids (adults) and grandchildren Rylan and Blaire with another one due yesterday, and also the rest of our families.
Camping, boating, fishing, hunting, nothing...anyfuckingthing i want to do...if i feel like it.
One picture i'm posting was taken right after my last trip. I had that drink (double) for all of you i've worked with (you're welcome) and i've had a few drinks every day since just in case i've forgotten anyone.
Stay safe out there and look after yourselves, but also look after each other so everyone can make it to the end the way i did.
Thanks again and we hope to see you all soon".
